Graphic Art Work

I don't consider myself a graphic artist. There are many people out there with far more talent than me in this area (I can even recommend one or two if you like). However, I enjoy graphic art and have acquired enough skills to hold my own in a pinch.

I have worked with vector, rasterized and 3D images, and have developed art for print production, online and multimedia use, and even T-shirts and embroidery.

Business cards I have designed, in PDF format.

Models designed using Blender.

Two papercraft models I designed using Illustrator and Photoshop (I had no CAD software at the time). These files can be printed, cut out, and put together to form 3D models.

Logos, Patches, and Banners

This piece was designed as a business logo, with the eventual purpose of it being embroidered and screen printed on jackets, banners, patches, etc. This is in part why it is round. I have found shapes with sharp corners tend to succumb to wear and tear faster.

As with many martial arts school logos, there is a lot of symbolism involved in this  particular piece, from the colors used and the coat of arms, to the particular swords chosen for the design.

For years, my sons and I have made wooden swords, staves, and other items for martial arts training. We started Woodsmiths with a dual purpose: My son wanted spending money, and I wanted him to learn firsthand the aspects of running a business.

The "W" logo was designed to be engraved or burned into the comapany's products.

"Be a Hoser!" Sticker

While working at Agrium, I was a member of the Safety Committee. One our challenges was to increase the awareness of hoses left lying around throughout the plant, creating tripping hazards. We instigated a campaign to encourage employees to hang up hoses when not in use.

This particular piece was printed as a sticker employees could stick on their hardhats (a tradition in heavy industry). It consists of the company logo being used as a hose hanger. Work was done in photoshop.

Another segment of the campaign involved the design and construction of steel hose hangers which were distributed throughout the plant.

Doombunnies Paintball

Long ago, my youngest brother gave me a miniature he had painted, a small rabbit clad in armor and bearing a shield and large battleaxe. He called it the "Doombunny."

When I decided to create a paintball team, I noticed many of the other teams bore serious names, such as "Black Ops," "The Suppressors," "Eternus," and so on. Our team was mostly made up of first-time players, and we half-jokingly referred to ourselves as "professional amateurs." I chose a name that would add a light-hearted feel, emphasizing the fun of the sport.

That being said, our team has always done fairly well in tournaments.

Team Shirts and Banner

To go along with the team name, and to build an esprit de corps among players who had never met, I created the team shirts and banner. Members of the team were each required to choose a rabbit-related nickname, which was included on the shirt. The banner is a double-sided sashimono-style flag which hangs from an L-shaped pole. Final print size was a little over 4 feet tall.
